David Strauss: My name is David Strauss, and I'm a partner at Thornton & Naumes. I handle the firm's toxic tort and environmental litigation. We established this area of the practice over 20 years ago, expanding our representation of workers with asbestos disease to include individuals exposed to other hazardous substances in the workplace and in the environment. These exposures have led to injuries such as leukemia, lymphoma, and other serious illness.
We began representing workers with leukemia in the mid 1980's, successfully establishing that this disease can be caused by exposure to low level of benzene and other solvents. We brought one of the first lawsuits in the country involving a clean room worker in the computer chip industry who suffered serious reproductive health disorders. We successfully resolved this groundbreaking case after three years of litigation.
Other cases we have successfully litigated included occupational exposures to radiation, beryllium, dioxins, and many different solvents. In addition, we are currently representing a large number of families in Hamden, Connecticut, whose homes were built on contaminated lands, used for hazardous waste dumping. This lawsuit, which we filed in 2003, seeks damages that up to 600 families may have suffered from the dumping of poisons such as arsenic and lead, onto their property.
Thornton & Naumes is also preparing similar actions involving contaminated properties in other states including Rhode Island. My firm has also been involved in the past several years with investigating legal claims on behalf of states against major polluters to recover damages to important natural resources destroyed by hazardous waste.
If you have had exposure to hazardous chemicals or substances in the work place, environment, or at home, and have suffered serious health problems, then we may be able to assist you in obtaining fair compensation. Contact us at Thornton & Naumes.
